Migrants in US-Mexico border transported to detention facilities after Biden's executive order

SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA, USA - JUNE 11, 2024: Migrants who have set up camps in the Jacumba Hot Springs Desert in San Diego, California, are being loaded into vehicles by US border patrols and taken to detention facilities for official procedures on Tuesday (June 11). Migrants who have managed to cross illegally from Mexico to the American side, which is surrounded by high-security fences, are being intercepted by border patrols and subjected to legal procedures. Due to the adverse effects of extreme heat, voluntary civil society representatives are providing water and food assistance to exhausted migrants. Among the migrants attempting to cross the border, in addition to Latin Americans, it is also possible to encounter Asians and Africans. Migrants lining up in groups are being loaded into vehicles by US border patrols and sent to detention facilities. US President Joe Biden rolled out the new executive order Tuesday to significantly restrict asylum claims in a bid to stave off Republican criticism of his border policies ahead of November's presidential election. The order goes into effect when there is a seven-day average of 2,500 or more "border encounters" per day. That includes the southwestern land border and southern US coastal borders. There are already well over 2,500 daily "border encounters," meaning the order immediately takes effect.
