Slovakian NGO Brings Humanitarian Assistance To Ukrainians Just Across The Border

PRESOV, SLOVAKIA - MARCH 16: Volunteers from the NGO Podaj dalej, which translates to 'Passing on', are sorting and packing humanitarian aid on March 16, 2022, in Presov, Slovakia. Slovak NGO Passing on started collecting humanitarian aid for Ukraine on February 25. Currently between 20 to 30 volunteers, many of whom are Ukrainian students studying in Slovakia, help in the NGO that is run by Viera Potasova and other founding members. The NGO delivered around 21 tones of help to Ukraine already. The upcoming delivery of 3,5 tones of humanitarian aid is intended for the hospital and orphanage in Uzhhorod, Uzhhorod National University that hosts about 1600 refugees (women and kids) and members of Ukrainian police and armed forces. Just two kilometres from the Slovakian border, the Ukrainian city of Uzhhorod has become a distribution hub for humanitarian assistance following the Russian invasion of Ukraine on February 24. More than 200,000 people have fled Ukraine to Slovakia since then, and many more of seeking refuge in the relative safety of Ukraine's west and cities like Uzhhorod.
