Cruise Ship MV Hondius Arrives In Rotterdam To Be Disinfected Following Hantavirus Outbreak

ROTTERDAM, NETHERLANDS - MAY 18: The cruise ship MV Hondius docks in the Port of Rotterdam to be disinfected following the recent hantavirus outbreak on May 18, 2026 in Rotterdam, Netherlands. The cruise ship MV Hondius is docking in Rotterdam where crew members will be tested and quarantined and the ship will be disinfected after three passengers aboard the nature cruise died from Hantavirus over recent weeks. On May 10, the remaining passengers docked in Tenerife, in Spain's Canary Islands, where they were repatriated to their respective countries to be monitored, and in some cases, quarantined. As of May 15, a total of 10 cases have been confirmed by the World Health Organization, including the three who died from the disease, which can be contracted through contact with the urine, feces, or saliva of infected rodents.
