Daily Life In Lviv As War Reaches First Anniversary

The Heavenly Hundred Heroes refers to the approximately 100 people killed by police during the Euromaidan uprising of 2014 in Kyiv, in which a popular movement occupied the city center for months and faced off against armed police. The protests eventually led to the ouster of pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych and set Ukraine towards a more pro-Western and European course. Russia responded by annexing Crimea and stoking the Donbas separatist war. While much international attention is focusing on the upcoming, February 24 first anniversary of Russia's war in Ukraine, Ukraine has been fighting a Russian-back Donbas war since 2014.
