MEXICO CITY, MEXICO - JULY 26: Hundreds of dancers and groups that claim the original Mexican culture celebrated the 698th foundation of Tenochtitlan, in the event in Mexico on Wednesday (July 26). During the event that marks the founding of Tenochtitlan, the capital of the ancient Aztec Empire, people played instruments, sang songs and performed dances in traditional clothes. There were also offerings of flowers, music, ball game and other pre-Hispanic manifestations. “We are celebrating, in the way that I learned and that I like with dance, with ceremonies, with singing, with an offering, representatives of various towns, of various states here in Mexico,” said 49 Diana Marin, one of the attendees of the celebration. Wearing traditional clothes, sixty years old worker Floriberto Anacotera Campos stressed that attending the events and marking the founding of Tenochtitlan, as well as Aztec culture are very sacred to them. “Hopefully this will spread even more, that our children will be aware of our culture,” he added.
