Strong Earthquake In Aomori Prefecture

HACHINOHE, JAPAN - DECEMBER 9: (NO SALES TO JAPANESE BROADCASTERS) Debris scattered by the earthquake and a toppled fire extinguisher on December 9, 2025 in Hachinohe, Japan. On December 8, at around 11:15 p.m., an earthquake of magnitude 7.5 struck off the eastern coast of Aomori-prefecture, recording a maximum seismic intensity of upper 6 in Hachinohe-city, Aomori-prefecture. This earthquake triggered a temporary tsunami warning for areas along the Pacific coast of Aomori-prefecture and elsewhere. The Japan Meteorological Agency and the Cabinet Office held a joint press conference, announcing for the first time the “Off the Coast of Hokkaido and Sanriku Subsequent Earthquake Advisory”, stating that the possibility of another large-scale earthquake occurring from Hokkaido to the Sanriku coast, is higher than usual.
