SPEECH - Housing Advocates Push For “Good Cause Eviction” Bill In New York

Housing advocates rally at Foley Square in downtown Manhattan asking Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart-Cousins and Assembly Speaker Carl Heastie to pass the "Good Cause Eviction" bill (or GCE bill/Senate Bill S3082) before the end of the New York State legislative session ending in June. Numerous members of the New York congressional delegation have expressed support for the bill. The bill is sponsored by State Senator Julia Salazar from Brooklyn and Assemblymember Pamela Hunt from Syracuse. The bill sets rent increase limits and allows for automatic lease renewals under most circumstances and further protects good-paying tenants from eviction if the tenants have not violated their leases.
