Restoration of a Carpaccio Painting

MADRID, SPAIN – FEBRUARY 04. A restorer of the Thyssen-Bornemisza National Museum works on one of the most emblematic paintings of its permanent collection: ‘Joven caballero en un paisaje’ (Young Knight in a Landscape) (circa 1505) by Vittore Carpaccio (Venice, circa 1465 – 1525/1526) on February 4, 2020 in Madrid, Spain. The objective is to recover the nuances and the original color range and know in detail the technique and materials used by the painter, possible rectifications carried out by the artist and approach the creative process of the painting. Once completed, in March 2021, the painting will first leave the museum to be part of a major retrospective dedicated to Carpaccio at the National Gallery in Washington, US.
