On August 27, 1988, Delphine Boulay, a 10-year-old girl disappears while she was at a scout camp in Calvados. Her burnt body was found next to the camp two weeks later. In 1990, a restaurant owner found a collection of letters and newspaper clippings in the apartment he was renting to his kitchen assistant Gérard Lebourg, 29 years old who is sentenced to life imprisonment for Delphine's kidnapping, rape and murder on May 20, 1992, and for the rape of his niece Sandra. Following the case, Delphine's parents created the Aide aux Parents d'Enfants Victimes association, leading to a national genetic file to enable the tracking of sexual offenders and to the "numéro vert" (toll-free number).
