Livingstone's cap and Stanley's helmet
Livingstone's cap and Stanley's helmet, These were the hats worn by Dr. David Livingstone and Henry Morton Stanley when they met at Ujiji. Livingstone's cap was made by Joseph Starkey of Conduit Street, London. Livingstone's caps became a key element of his public image, appearing beside him or on his head in a variety of photographs and featuring prominently in the engravings that illustrated 'Missionary Travels'. This is believed to be the one he doffed to Stanley. Stanley's helmet was made by Hawkes, Tanzania, 1830. RGS Artefact Collection. (Photo by Royal Geographical Society via Getty Images)
