Tempelhof Airport To Be Decommissioned

Tempelhof Airport, first built in 1923 and extended into its current form between 1936 and 1941, is the biggest single building in Europe. It was used by Allied troops in 1948 during the Berlin Airlift, when Allied airplanes supplied West Berlin with essentials during a blockade by Soviet forces. Though the airport is still in use, city authorities recently rejected an investment proposal by U.S. investors Ronald Lauder and Fred Langhammer, choosing instead to decomission the airport in 2008.
