BETHLEHEM, PALESTINE - 2014/07/23: Two Israeli soldiers stand on Manger Street in Bethlehem, surveying the scene in front of them, on the look out for Palestinian youth who are protesting in the streets. On Wednesday evening Palestinian youth took to the streets for the second week in a row in the West Bank city of Bethlehem. Earlier that day, in the early morning hours, two men from a village west of Bethlehem were shot and killed by Israeli forces in another demonstration over the massive military incursion into Gaza. In anticipation of violence and large crowds, Palestinian security forces were deployed in the streets of Bethlehem, leading up to the Israeli military checkpoint, checkpoint 300. Palestinian riot police attempted to stop youth from demonstrating and clashing with Israeli soldiers. However, Palestinians incensed just as much at their own government as at the Israeli army, clashed with their own security forces. A pushing and shoving match ensued between civilians and police, while youth screamed at the police and government forces. Shortly afterwards, Palestinian youth broke through the Palestinian security forces police line and briefly clashed with Israeli soldiers. To date 745 Palestinians have been killed in Gaza as part of Israel's Operation Protective Edge. However, in the West Bank, the two men who were killed in the village of Husan, Muhammad Qasim Hamamra, 19, and Mahmoud Hamamra, 32, are the first victims to die over the recent clashes in the area over the Gaza war.
