Ruined Mosque at Damascus

(Original Caption) The whole world was shocked by the news of the French bombardment of the beautiful Eastern city of Damascus. General Sarrail the French General who ordered the bombardment was recalled and a civilian sent out in his place. Sarrail stated that the bombardment was necessary as French troops were cooped up in the Citadel of Damascus by the Mohammedan uprising. Two thousand persons were said to have been killed among which were many non combatant foreigners. This interesting photo shows one of the many beautiful Mosques which were totally ruined by the terrific shelling.
