TV Show for Kids Produced by Women in Tehran

Mrs. Soheila Ghodsi gives direction on the set of an Iranian children's program. A graduate of San Francisco School of Fine Arts moved back to Iran with her 2 American-born children 5 years ago in pursuit of an Islamic lifestyle that she was lacking in Boston. She produces English language programming for Iran's state run television and radio. Her team includes many women working behind and in front of the camera. Unlike other Islamic countries in the region, women in Iran play a major role in society. Women are still not considered equal to men; however, since reformers took power many things have changed. Women participate in all levels of society and professions including the media. They play an important role in the making of television shows. The television program targets children born in Europe and the US, teaching them Farsi through English. (Photo by Ramin Talaie/Corbis via Getty Images)
