Four sentenced to death in case of Kabul lynching of Farkhunda

An Afghan court on Wednesday sentenced four men to death for the public lynching in Kabul of a 27-year-old woman falsely accused of burning the Koran, the court also sentenced eight people to 16 years in prison while 18 others were found not guilty. A trial of 49 people, including 19 policemen, linked to the mob killing of a woman started in the Afghan capital, Kabul, 02 May, in which the 49 suspects face charges of assault, murder, incitement to violence and failure to prevent the March 19 mob killing of an Afghan woman in the capital in broad daylight in front of the police, after she was wrongfully accused of burning a Koran. Farkhunda, 27, an Islamic Studies graduate, was murdered outside a mosque after arguing with local mullahs regarding the selling of amulets for good fortune.
