CENTRAFRICA-UNREST-SELEKA
An heavily armed Seleka rebel coalition member, which launched a major offensive last month, holds on January 10, 2013 a position in a village 12 kilometers from Damara, where troops of the regional African force FOMAC are stationned. Three-way peace talks between the Central African government, the rebel coalition that conquered much of the country over the past month and the political opposition began on January 9 in Gabon. With a lightning advance starting December 10, the rebels took over most of the Central African Republic. They are demanding that Central African President Francois Bozize step down, but the head of state, who took power in a 2003 coup, warned on the eve of the talks that he would not leave his job.
