Villena High Speed Train Station: In The Middle Of Nowhere
VILLENA, SPAIN - JULY 10: An AVE, the Spanish high speed train, enters to the Villena glass-and-steel station coming from Alicante as a Spanish flag flutters crowning the building on July 10, 2013 in Villena, Spain. The AVE Madrid-Alicante high-speed train route was inaugurated by Prince Felipe of Spain and Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy on June 17. An 11.5 million euro investment was made into building the Villena AVE station, one stop along the two hour and twenty minute journey, however, the station remains unfinished due to lack of budget. Access to and from the station to the surrounding towns is difficult due to the lack of transport and road infrastructure in the area leaving the station largely unused.
