19th Century Papal Monstrance

A 19th century papal monstrance of silver, gilded silver, niello, topaz and precious stones made by D. De La Touche of Paris, France. Three angels surround the base, above them a shrine with four busts flanked by little columns of lapis-lazuli. The monstrance was given to Pius IX by the Bishop Matthieu with the clergy and people of Besancon, France, in 1850.
